ReCreate
Calling all emerging artists! Join us as we celebrate Austin Studio Tour with a community Paint Jam — submit your mural proposal for a chance to reserve a wall at HOPE Outdoor Gallery.
Same mission, new walls
HOPE Campaign has connected creatives with causes since 2006 — Helping Other People Everywhere, one mural at a time. The original HOPE Outdoor Gallery on Baylor Street became the only art park of its kind in the country, painted and repainted by hundreds of contributors before the site closed for good in January 2019.
Come paint at the new location — wall space is reserved for emerging Austin muralists. Submit your mural proposal ahead of time, and HOPE reviews submissions to confirm your wall before Oct 1.
Baylor Street opens. With support from artist Shepard Fairey and hundreds of contributors, HOPE Outdoor Gallery becomes the only art park of its kind in the USA.
The original site closes. Baylor Street paints its final layer on January 2, 2019, and HOPE begins building a permanent home in East Austin.
ReCreate. HOPE Outdoor Gallery, 741 Dalton Ln — reserved walls for emerging artists, one community Paint Jam.
Reserved walls.
Real muralists.
ReCreate runs like a block party for the city's next generation of muralists — come watch selected artists bring the gallery's walls to life.
Paint your reserved wall
Selected artists get a freshly buffed wall assigned — bring your own paint and design, and make it yours.
Music, food & the whole crew
Local food and music keep the day going while our artists paint — bring your crew and cheer them on.
Two ways to be
part of ReCreate
Emerging artist
Submit a mural proposal (or a link to past work) for consideration. HOPE reviews submissions and holds wall space for confirmed artists ahead of the day.
Submit your design →Volunteer & crew
Not painting? HOPE still needs hands for setup, supply runs, check-in, and keeping the whole day moving — just as essential to ReCreate as the artists.
RSVP as volunteer →Get there
RSVP to paint
Fill out HOPE's RSVP form — volunteers just need the basics; emerging artists should include a mural proposal or a link to past work so HOPE can confirm wall space.
- Volunteer: contact us through the RSVP form.
- Emerging artist: the above, plus a mural proposal or a link to your portfolio.
Good to know
Who can apply to paint?
ReCreate reserves wall space for emerging Austin muralists with some mural or public art experience. Submit a proposal through the RSVP form and HOPE will review it for fit.
Do artists need to apply before the event?
Yes — emerging artists submit a mural proposal (or a link to past work) through the RSVP form so HOPE can review it and confirm wall space ahead of Nov 15. Volunteers don't need to submit anything in advance.
Do I need to bring my own paint or supplies?
Yes — HOPE preps a freshly buffed wall for each selected artist, but paint and materials are on you.
How is this different from just visiting the gallery?
HOPE Outdoor Gallery is normally open to view existing murals. ReCreate is a working paint day — the walls change while you're there, and you're invited to help change them.
